Celebrating the 500th Episode of the HR Happy Hour Show!

October 12, 2021

Recently, at the HR Technology Conference, we recorded and celebrated the 500th Episode of the HR Happy Hour Show! You can listen to the show here, (I will also embed the show player below), or on your favorite podcast app.

To make it this long, (500 episodes across over 12 years), is quite remarkable I think, and I want to take a moment to say thanks to some important people who have contributed to the show’s longevity and success over this time. First, I have to thank Trish McFarlane, who has been a fantastic partner on the show and who convinced me at least three times to not end the show when I was frustrated and burned out. And I would also like to thank Shauna Moerke, the original HR Happy Hour co-host who was a key part of the show in its first few years. Plus, I must thank Karen Hunter who has taken the reins as the show producer and has done an amazing job – much better than I ever did!

Of course we have to thank our current show sponsor Paychex, who has been with us for a while and are an organization with amazing products and services, but more importantly, even better people. Special thanks to Tom Hammond and Tracy Volkmann, who are just the best folks to work with.  I’d also like to thank the sponsors who have worked with us in the past for all their support. There are too many to list, and I’d probably forget one if I tried.

Finally, I would like to thank all of the show subscribers and listeners. Back in 2009, I would have never imagined that the show would still be around in 2021, and that we would have reached so many listeners along the way. I really hope that we have provided information, insight, inspiration, and entertainment over the years. I can’t thank you all enough for the kind words and messages of encouragement. Just a couple weeks ago I got a message from an HR student in Iran, who wanted to let me know she appreciated the show and has learned a lot about her chosen career path from listening. We get messages like that all the time and that is a pretty cool thing to know that we are making a positive impact in an unlikely place.

I am glad we reached the 500th show milestone and was especially glad we could celebrate in-person at HR Tech as well!

Here’s to the next 500 episodes!
